What to do around Le Nid du Massereau?
Very close by, within walking distance:
La chaussée de Robert
Starting from the bottom of the village, heading west, you cross the Chinese bridge over the tidal channel and discover this former 18th-century dike, recently redeveloped, lined with giant centuries-old plane trees that give it all its charm. It will lead you to the Loire and its ferry.
The Roche Ballue Nature Site
At the bottom of Rue des Massereaux, turn right after the last house and follow a path through the woods. After 1 km, you will pass near the Mandine birdwatching site. You can observe Loire birds from the observation hides. Then you will reach the Roche Ballue natural site, a former quarry converted into a swimming and relaxation area. (From June 17 to September 5, the Roche Ballue leisure nature site is subject to an entrance fee and open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; access is then via the road.)
Loire ferry
Following the Chaussée Robert, you will reach the Indre ferry, which allows you to cross the Loire free of charge by car, on foot, or by bike. Don’t hesitate, hop on board! And if it’s a Sunday morning, stroll through the lanes of the Basse-Indre market.
Very close by, by bike:
Itinéraire La Loire à vélo et la Vélodyssée
This route is only 900 m from the house. Surrounded on both sides by Natura 2000 areas, the village of Roche Ballue is popular with cycle tourists, yet without crowds.
The village of Trentemoult and its colorful houses
Along the Loire à Vélo route, discover Trentemoult, a former fishing village turned into a human-sized riverside retreat. Wander through its narrow streets lined with colorful houses, enjoy a drink or lunch along the quays, then cross the Loire by Navibus and escape to Nantes.
